Sandhill Small Lot Three Red 2019 VQA

WINEMAKING
Harvested from the Sandhill Estate Vineyard. Each varietal received a gentle crush, then fermented in small open top fermenters, with a yeast isolated from Brunello fermentations in Italy to bring out the classic Italian character of these varietals (fruit, spice, and earth components). A full malolactic fermentation for a supple mouthfeel. Each varietal is aged individually in French oak for 26 months (Sangiovese and Barbera in foudres, Cabernet Franc and Merlot in barrels). The final blend is a portion of each foudre and a few oak barrels.

FLAVOUR PROFILE
Bright ruby red colour with a lovely bouquet of red plum and mixed berry fruit, mingling with notes of tea leaves, smoky oak, earth, and sweet spice. This medium to full-bodied wine has silky tannins, great texture, and food-friendly acidity. Red fruits (cherry, plum, and berry) along with a touch of spice, unfold on the palate. Red fruits (currant, pomegranate, and berry) along with earth and spice, linger beautifully on the extra dry finish.

FOOD SUGGESTIONS
Serve with grilled red meats; rosemary lamb chops; roasted leg of lamb; rich Rigatoni Bolognese with Parmigiano Reggiano; meaty cheesy lasagna; veal parmesan; cured meats and crusty breads along with Pecorino, Parmigiano Reggiano or Grana Padano cheese.
